Team Spirit and Building Friendships Marks 2024 Globeducate Cup in Barcelona

Agora Barcelona International School proudly hosted the Globeducate Cup Iberia Event, a three-day football tournament that brought together over 160 students from 11 schools across Spain and Andorra. The event took place in October and focused on the values of fair play, emphasising that while winning is important, teamwork, respect, and enjoying the experience matter most. Girls and boys' teams competed, showing their passion for sports while building friendships across schools and regions.

Among the highlights of the event were the victories of Agora Granada College International School in the girls' competition and Agora Portals International School (Mallorca) in the boys' category. Both teams displayed remarkable skills, dedication, and team spirit, making them well-deserved winners.

What made this year’s event truly special was the presentation of 3D-printed trophies, a unique touch that added an innovative and personal dimension to the ceremony. These trophies were designed and printed by the talented students at Agora Barcelona International School, who also had the honour of presenting them to the winning teams during the closing ceremony.

The atmosphere of camaraderie and sportsmanship was felt throughout the tournament, as students had the opportunity to not only compete but also forge new friendships and cultural connections. For many, the event was about much more than football; it was about building bridges across schools and regions.

Carlos, a 13-year-old student from O Castro British School, shared his thoughts on the experience: "My experience staying at a host family from Agora Princess Margaret International School during the event was great, to see how things work in other grand cities and meeting new people."

This sentiment was echoed by many others, as students enjoyed the chance to immerse themselves in different cultures and environments, further enriching their school journey.

Ada, 13 years old, from Agora Andorra International School, reflected on the tournament from a sporting perspective: "It was amazing celebrating goals with my team, enjoying with my friends, spending time playing my favourite sport, football and meeting new people – it was a lot of fun. In three words I can say that the event was entertaining, competitive and very interactive."

At the heart of the Globeducate Cup Iberia Event is a celebration of sporting spirit and shared values, something that Xavier Martin, the director of Agora Barcelona International School, highlighted during his closing statement: "Thank you very much for exhibiting the values that make any athlete great: Respect, teamwork, effort, ambition, and humility."

As the event ended, it was clear that every participant left with more than just memories of the matches they played. They gained friendships, learned about team spirit and were part of a truly international community.

The Globeducate Cup Iberia Event was not only a success for Agora Barcelona International School but a testament to the power of sport in bringing people together. We look forward to hosting many more events like this in the future!
