Globeducate Musicians Meet in Mallorca for 13th International Music Festival

Agora Portals International School in Mallorca became a centre of music and solidarity at the end of January, with the celebration of the 13th annual Globeducate International Music Festival.

This event, which took place over four days, with various activities and rehearsals, culminated in a final concert on Thursday 30 January. A total of 170 students from 15 Globeducate schools, coming from different corners of Europe and Canada, came together to offer a unique concert entitled ‘Guardians of the Sea’, the central theme of which was the preservation of our seas and oceans.

The spectacular cantata featured a string orchestra, wind band and choir, demonstrating the talent and passion of Globeducate students for music.  In addition, the special presence of Cateura Recycled Instrument Orchestra from Paraguay brought a message of inclusion and sustainability, showing how music can transform lives. For Sol, a student at Agora Portals International School, this festival has been a fundamental experience in her musical career, as it's the fifth time she's taken part in it:

For me, this festival is more than a concert. It allows me to meet up with friends from other countries and share the stage with teachers I admire. Playing alongside Imma, music teacher at Agora Sant Cugat International School, is an enriching experience. We both play the viola, and sharing a desk with her always provides me with new learning. What's more, this year I'm proud that the concert is being organised at the school where I've been since Infant School and where I'm now studying the International Baccalaureate’.

For his part, Tommaso, a student at ICS Rome, who travelled from Italy to participate in the event for the first time, highlighted the importance of this experience for his personal and artistic growth.

"Travelling from Italy to Mallorca to participate in the XIII International Music Festival has been an incredible experience. I play the saxophone during the concert, but since I was five years old, I have also played the piano and other instruments. Music is my life. This event has allowed me to grow both musically and personally and to meet colleagues from different cultures."

Attendees were also able to enjoy the exhibition by local artists Ángel Mercé Grases and África Juan, whose works inspired by music and the sea added a special touch to the event. The proceeds from the sale of their works, along with ticket sales, went to two charity initiatives: Cateura Recycled Instrument Orchestra and the Palma Aquarium Foundation.

The XIII International Music Festival was not only a musical success, but also a testimony to the power of education to unite students from all over the world through music. The magic of the stage, the connection between students and the charitable cause made this event an unforgettable moment.

We look forward to the next international music festival, where our students will continue to demonstrate that music is a universal language which unites us all.
