Agora Granada College International School Hosts 11th Globeducate Global Olympics

Agora Granada College International School Hosts 11th Globeducate Global Olympics

Globeducate students once again met to celebrate sport, team work and building new friendships as more than 300 athletes from across 27 schools in the Globeducate network met at host school Agora Granada College International School in Spain for the event´s 11th edition.

From 4 to 7 June students from Year 5 and 6 Primary and Year 1 and 2 ESO, came together to take part in these sporting Olympics, promoting healthy competition and the Olympic spirit.

Globeducate chools from seven different countries took part: Spain, Portugal, Andorra, France, Italy, United Kingdom and Cyprus. The students participated in a variety of sporting disciplines: football, basketball, fullnet, floorball, water polo and triathlon.

This event not only encourages the practice of sports to promote healthy lifestyle habits, but also awakens in young people the Olympic spirit and fellowship, creating lasting friendships between students at different schools and nationalities.

"This was the first Globeducate event I attended, and it exceeded all my expectations. Seeing hundreds of children start a competition as strangers and finish as friends, working together in mixed teams from different schools and nationalities, highlighted for me that students in Globeducate schools are part of a strong community. For my students, the learning opportunities were immense, from living with host families to learning about sports they had never played before."

Charlotte Bennett, Stonar School, UK

A fundamental part of the success of this event was the welcome given to the students by more than 100 families from Agora Granada College International School, who offered their hospitality and opened the doors of their homes, thus strengthening the connection between students of different nationalities.

One of the RIS Rome students, Ludovica, 13, said:

"Living with our host families in Granada was an amazing experience. They welcomed us with open arms, took us to walk around the centre of the wonderful city and shared with us very interesting insights into the local culture. This hospitality, combined with making new friends from all over the world, made the whole event truly unforgettable."

On Friday 7th June, the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics was held, in which the participating teams were rewarded for being bold, caring, thoughtful, reflective, thinkers, upstanding, educated, balanced, communicators... During the ceremony, Agora Granada College International School wanted to highlight four distinctive elements of Granada's culture, paying tribute to each of them through various performances: The Alhambra and its courtyard of lions, flamenco, the Tropical Coast and the Sierra Nevada.

Javier Jiménez, Head of Agora Granada College International School:

"It has been an honour for our school to be able to welcome more than 300 pupils to our 32,000 m² of facilities. We observed with satisfaction how the values of respect, teamwork and discipline were paramount among the pupils. Thanks to being part of an educational group like Globeducate, it is possible to create and participate in these international events which enrich our students greatly".

Agora Granada College International School is proud to have been the setting for such a significant event, which not only celebrates sport, but also promotes essential values such as solidarity, companionship and respect between young people from different cultures.
