Globeducate Arts Competition Takes Theme of "Reflections"
The Globeducate Arts Competition has become a highlight of the academic year, launching in June each summer term, submissions finalised in November, and judging completed in time for Christmas. The 2023 competition saw nearly 10,000 students submit entries, and over 200 pieces were referred through to the Globeducate judging panel.
We are delighted, once again, to reveal this year´s winning and highly commended entries across four age groups, 5 to 7, 8 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18. Appealing to a wide range of artistic media, our entrants may be artists, writers, poets, dancers, actors, photographers, sculptors or crafters.
This year´s theme was "Reflections" and it was up to students to decide on how to interpret the theme and how they would like to express it. The theme was broad to allow artists to interpret it as they wished, yet also with the focus of aligning with our Globeducate mission.
Monica Fontán, Globeducate Education Director, said: “Notably, the remarkable connection between students and the theme shines through, exemplified by standout submissions like "Solar Symphony" and "The Dancing Mops" in the Performing Arts category. As we enter the second year of Performing Arts, it's commendable to witness students ingeniously incorporating the theme into their performances, coupled with a noteworthy link to sustainable development goals.
“This year´s art competition is centred around the theme of "reflections" and its connection to light and energy. United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG7, relates to renewable energy and energy consumption and we encouraged our artistic community to explore the concept of reflections and how it relates to sustainable energy use - be they performers, writers, sculptors, poets or artists using paint or other mediums. However, as we do not want to curb creativity, students were able to interpret the theme as they please.”
This year we saw craft projects around our three green energies, paintings and drawings around reflections of nature, personality, ideal world, time to change, and our photographers captured architectural reflections and reflections of displacement. Other titles included poetry “What I see in me”, “Reflections of Unrequited Love” and “The Hall of Mirrors risking our lives.”
