Globeducate Iberia Cup Brings Students Together Across Spain

Globeducate Iberia Cup Brings Students Together Across Spain

The first Globeducate Iberia Cup took place between 17th and 20th October in Spain, hosted by Agora Barcelona International School.

Students from nine Globeducate schools in Spain competed in football and gained experience of more associated ball games including foot curling, floating ball, padball and foot pichi! Students and accompanying teachers made new friendships, reconnected with friends from other schools and grew in confidence from the experience.

On Tuesday 17th October the event opened with a formal Opening Ceremony on the football field, with a welcome speech from School Director Xavi Martin. He mentioned the importrance of the values of humility, effort, ambition, respect and teamwork which are central to sport and to the competition. Students also heard an inspiring and motivating story of progression through football from a professional player from RCD Espanyol club, Antoniu Roca.

On Wednesday 18th, students played 7 v 7 football in a tournament between schools and then enjoyed some fun activities related to football such as Padbol, Foot Pichi and Futbolí Gegant. In these activities the school teams were mixed, to encourage new friendships and connections to be made.

The tournament and fun activities continued on Thursday and students and coordinators enjoyed a social evening together where they shared some experiences from the tournament and had more opportunities to interact. The closing ceremony on the following day saw students and teams receive awards and reflection on the emotions involved in winning and losing in sport.

Congratulations to all who took part, and for the sporting spirit exhibited during the week.

Martina and Roman, from Agora Andorra International School said:

Participating in the Iberian Cup was truly enjoyable for me. This event offered a fantastic opportunity to connect with students from other Agora Schools and GBIS schools in Spain and to enjoy playing football, which I'm particularly passionate about. I encourage other students to take part in this experience, as it promises a great deal of fun. We finished as the second-place team, which was very exciting, although the most important thing was to participate.

This experience was absolutely remarkable, and I recommended it to everyone, particularly if you relish combining sports and social interaction. Staying with the host family was an excellent experience; they were very kind and included me on their daily routines and activities. I loved interacting with people from all around Spain and learned from them and I feel thankful because now they are my friends.

Thank you also to the visiting school staff, Marina Corchero, Emili Romeu, Noa Fortuny, Pau Egea, Anna Pérez, Berta Navarro, Jana Guezala, Daniel Alvarez, Alicia Seguer and Nuria Tierney. The event would not have been possible without the support of these teachers and the host school.
