Globeducate Poetry Event Inspires 4,000 Students

The annual Globeducate Poetry Slam took place across Globeducate schools around the world to mark World Poetry Day on 21st March.

Aimed at supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to increase the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard, the day has become a really popular event globally and on our events calendar! In our Globeducate schools, students were challenged to learn a poem and recite or perform it in front of an audience.

Teachers, staff and parents were all invited to take part, to model levels of excellence for our students, and activities included Poetry Postman – teachers delivering a special poem to a class, using creative expression, even dressing up to add elements of drama. In some schools, we saw book swaps, illustrated poems, special assemblies and visits from local poets.

Monica Fontán, Education Director, said:

“We celebrated poetry across the group in various languages, showcasing the beauty of our diverse community, and the poetry explored delved into a wide range of topics and styles, from nature to social commentary.  What is important about this event is that it provides students with a platform to express themselves and to compete in a supportive and nurturing environment, and we connected our Poetry Slam with other Globeducate events, fostering collaboration across different teams and departments. It has been a pleasure watching videos and hearing from teachers across the group who saw the impact this event had on our students.”

In Cyprus, a group of Primary students at PASCAL Private English School Lemesos wrote and recorded a special poem, called No More.
