Globeducate Schools Reaffirm Commitment to Shaping the World

On the ninth SDG Flag Day, Globeducate students celebrated our group-wide commitment to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The group´s mission, to prepare each student to become a global citizen who can shape the world, is brought to life in classrooms and activities connected to the UN SDGs, Eco-Schools and a global partnership with WWF-UK

September 25th marks nine years since the SDGs were adopted by 193 UN member states. The SDGs call for global collaboration between governments, businesses and civil society to deliver a powerful vision for improving our world by 2030. More than halfway to 2030, it is acknolwedged that we need significant change if we are to achieve this agenda.

On September 26th, students from ISN Nice, one of Globeducate´s leading IB schools on the Côte d´Azur, attend the Nice Climate Summit as part of their commitment to change.

Agora Portals International School, pictured above, has adopted an active approach to marine conservation by opening a Marine Biology classroom - Aula del Mar. The project, an Agora International School initiative, won an award at Spain´s Eco-Schools conference and was awarded a World´s Best School Prize for the work being done at the school.

Globeducate has taken a significant step towards fostering a greener future by introducing a ground-breaking energy conservation programme across its schools in Europe that has already seen a reduction of nearly 1,000 tonnes of equivalent C02 across Cyprus, France, Italy and Spain. The initiative aims to harness the expertise and research of leading green energy providers and to educate and empower students to become active participants in environmental sustainability.  Students and staff were encouraged to find creative ways to conserve energy, with a group-wide campaign called "7 Days, 7 Ways", launching in January 2023 and January 2024.

More than 50 Globeducate schools already fly the green flag of Eco-Schools and more are already on the journey to becoming accredited Eco-Schools. You can read more about the programme and our vision to shape the world here.  Activities run by Eco-Schools councils in our schools include plant sales, such as this one at RIS Rome, and campaigns to save water or recycle. Many schools have introduced meat-free mondays and built bee-hives on city-school rooftops or bike shelters to encourage people to travel to school by bicycle.  River and beach cleans are a regular activity at many of our schools.
